Be Well Tameside are Offering FREE Health Checks

Date Released - 17/05/2023

BE Well Tameside are offering free NHS health checks to those who live, work, volunteer or have a GP in Tameside.

If you are aged between 40 and 74, not had a health check in the last five years, and are not on any medication for blood pressure, heart problems or cholesterol, you will be eligible to book in for the free health check.

The check itself takes roughly 30 minutes. During the check you will be weighed and measured, asked to answer questions around your lifestyle, have a blood pressure test, a finger prick test for cholesterol, and a diabetes and cardiovascular disease risk score.

Having a Health Check ensures that you are aware of your risk of cardiovascular disease. If you are at high risk, there are further steps you can then take, with support, to reduce the chances that you could have a heart attack or stroke.

As well as the Health Check, Be Well Tameside offers range of health and wellbeing support, including stopping smoking, weight management and advice around healthy eating, increasing physical activity, oral health and alcohol awareness.

Be Well Tameside offer appointments at a variety of locations, including Ashton-under-Lyne, Denton, Droylsden and more. Appointments for a free NHS health check need to be booked and are available throughout the day, in the evenings, and even at weekends.

With it also being World Hypertension Day today, there is additional support and encouragement around checking your blood pressure, as this can help improve your life.

High blood pressure does not usually have any symptoms, but can increase the risk of problems such as a heart attack, stroke or dementia. Therefore, it is important to get it checked with a quick and easy test.

Tameside Council Executive Member for Adult Social Care and Population Health Cllr Eleanor Wills said: “This is a great opportunity for the residents of Tameside to get themselves checked over for free by a professional in just 30 minutes.

“Even if you feel fit and healthy, I strongly encourage everyone not miss out, as this service can help prevent health issues at an early stage and offers lots of support to help people make healthier lifestyle changes.”
